Show HN: Bx - Slick invoicing, expenses, time tracking & projects http://ift.tt/2yK64Gt

Show HN: Bx - Slick invoicing, expenses, time tracking & projects Hi HN! After a few months of developing a product on the side, I've decided to post it to HN. I'll be honest, I am a bit nervous about it as I know how discerning the audience here can be, but I guess constructive criticism can't be a bad thing! My project is a progressive web app called Bx (pronounced "Books"). It's a tool to help you run your business and includes: > Invoicing and payments (via stripe) > Expenses > Time tracking > Project management > Inventory management > Slick, interactive dashboards It's nothing new or radical, but many of the existing tools I tried in my own business felt clunky, slow and dated, so I decided to build something more efficient, using my own business as a guinea pig. I wanted to build the app as a progressive web app (PWA) that provides a rich native-like experience on any device. I also wanted it to be somewhat functional, even whe

Launch HN: Solugen (YC W17) – Plant Sugars to Hydrogen Peroxide http://ift.tt/2zPheY4

Launch HN: Solugen (YC W17) – Plant Sugars to Hydrogen Peroxide Hi HN, Gaurab here, co-founder and CEO at Solugen (YC W17): http://ift.tt/2xnRekP . We convert plant sugars into hydrogen peroxide. Our overall goal is to replace petroleum-based chemicals with purer, plant-derived substitutes. We’re going after peroxides first because the process to make them is petroleum-dependent and quite atrocious. Peroxides are everywhere: they’re used to disinfect and clean many of the surfaces you encounter everyday; they’re used to make the plastics in the chairs you’re sitting in; they’re used to etch the a7 chip on your iphones, they’re even used to clean the food and water that you consumed today. But the dirty secret is that it’s extremely expensive to make peroxide, costing up to $100M to make a small facility, with an end product that’s contaminated with a high level of dangerous impurities. Worse, because of the petroleum based chemistry used to make peroxide, one facility explodes per year

Show HN: Website by a dentist to help anyone with dental problems http://ift.tt/2z5RyZW

Show HN: Website by a dentist to help anyone with dental problems Hi everyone, As you probably already know, most cities are saturated with dental offices yet so many people who need dental care do not seek professional help right away. As a dentist, I realize a dental clinic is not everyone’s favorite place to be. Many people fear the anticipation of pain or even dentists in general, and certain treatments can be quite expensive without dental benefits. Having these facts in mind, I created a free self-checking tool called DentalChek (www.dentalchek.com) for anyone with dental problems. This tool can give an idea of what could be causing the symptoms. By providing some relevant information, I hope to reduce public’s fear of dentists and teach the importance of seeking help before a problem gets worse. Please keep in mind this tool by no means substitutes an actual visit to a dentist. I strongly recommend going to a clinic for ALL dental concerns. But if you must postpone your visit, a

Show HN: PlaidML, open source deep learning for any GPU Our company Vertex.AI has been working on this for a while but this is the first public release. We're starting with using PlaidML to bring OpenCL support to Keras and more frameworks, platforms, etc are coming. Yes, this means you can use use your AMD GPU for deep learning dev. Sorry, no Mac or Windows support yet although the brave can try building from source (it should work). http://ift.tt/2xU4YYW http://ift.tt/2l0F5k6 October 20, 2017 at 08:15PM

Show HN: LiveCoder http://ift.tt/2yBDaI3

Show HN: LiveCoder LiveCoder is a fun tool I built almost a year ago to simulate live coding Frontend technologies for my presentations. You actually don't have to live-code, but just prepare beforehand the program, snippets of HTML, CSS and Javascript and you feed the tool with it, so you can just focus on explaining what's being coded. Simple :-) I never really shared this tool, but I used it in a few presentations quite succesfully, so I think it could be an interesting tool to use. You have full control of the speed. You can pause and resume... An entire app can be live-coded with this. It's quite fun to watch ;-) There is a Demo in the repo, a bit slow at the beginning but wait until the end, gets better. Hope you enjoy it and please, feedback would be very much appreciated. Repo: http://ift.tt/2gmJOaL Fran October 19, 2017 at 05:35PM

Show HN: Eggler – a decentralized Instacart http://ift.tt/2yfXQ5Z

Show HN: Eggler – a decentralized Instacart I've made a grocery delivery app that lets customers hire drivers directly. Drivers post their time slots in advance and then customers choose a time slot/driver. Drivers choose when and where they will deliver, and their delivery price. It's more like Airbnb's business model than Uber or Instacart. http://ift.tt/2wQWP2U October 13, 2017 at 01:35AM

Show HN: Emulating Bitcoin on Ethereum http://ift.tt/2i23AfU

Show HN: Emulating Bitcoin on Ethereum Hi guys, It is no secret that I'm pretty tired of the political infighting around Bitcoin. The environment got so toxic that I stopped most of my Bitcoin-centric development to focus on other projects. I'm pretty sure there are many developers who have felt the same way, and the result has been an explosion in alternative coins and technologies as developer resources have gone elsewhere. So, I started a simple experiment. What if we got rid of developers entirely, and just replicated and adapted the deflationary structure of Bitcoin on Ethereum. We could model the entire process as an autonomous smart contract, and build a deflationary kernel into Ethereum itself. This would give us a 'store-of-value' token that had access to Ethereum's smart contract language and ecosystem. Just like USD and other inflationary currencies are spent to "mine" Bitcoin, we could spend Ether in an algorithmic way to "mine" a Bit

Show HN: new dating advice app – Crowdsource advice from the opposite sex http://ift.tt/2zbFF1J

Show HN: new dating advice app – Crowdsource advice from the opposite sex My partner and I are developing an app at the moment which gives people the opportunity to crowdsource dating advice exclusively from people of the opposite sex. That is, women seek advice from men, and vice versa. The fundamental concept is to break down the barriers of communication between men and women and give people a more reliable source of advice than the usual channels such as friends - who can either be notoriously unreliable or sadly may not have the best intentions. People would post information anonymously about their situation by way of a short message and would also have the option of uploading a text msg feed (between them and their partner). People would then respond to that situation over a limited period (of 24-hours), with the most popular piece of advice being sent exclusively to the person who posted. We have a launch page below. http://ift.tt/2g502Zy We have a prototype developed are seekin

Launch HN: Forever Labs (YC S17) – Stem-Cell Banking http://ift.tt/2fFHlYI

Launch HN: Forever Labs (YC S17) – Stem-Cell Banking Hey HN! I’m Mark, one of the founders of Forever Labs ( https://foreverlabs.com ). We bank your stem cells to help you live healthier longer. I’ve spent the last 15 years developing therapies using bone mesenchymal stem cells for treatment of neurological injury and disease. Over these years, preclinical research of mine and others has translated to over 500 clinical trials currently employing these cells for treatment of stroke, heart disease, dementia, and more. This is especially good news when it comes to diseases such as ischemic stroke, where we haven’t had a new approved therapeutic in over 20 years. It is no exaggeration to say that stem cell therapy is creating opportunities for treatment where few existed. However, there is a problem. To put it simply: 1) Your own stem cells treat you best, 2) your stem cells decline with age, and 3) you need your stem cells most for diseases that affect you when you are old. Our solution i
